Visit the Santa Monica Airport...

Thousands of families, school & civic groups, and individuals visit the Santa Monica Airport each year. It's no wonder the airport is such a popular spot for so many; there's so much to see.

Airport History

The Santa Monica Airport has a rich aviation history dating back to circa 1919. There was Douglas Aircraft Company taking root in the 1920's, the airport's role in WWII in the 1940's and the numerous US Presidents and business & community leaders which have visited Santa Monica throughout the years.

Indeed Santa Monica has quite a historic record.  To learn more about the Airport's history click the photo to the right.

Antique Mart & Other Venues

Weekends are busy at the Santa Monica Airport. The Santa Monica Outdoor Antique Market is held on the first & fourth Sunday of each month from 8AM to 3PM in the parking lot adjacent to the Barker Hangar on Airport Avenue.

You may also check the SMART Report or links below for upcoming events, plays and other things to do:

Public View Decks

The Airport has two free and easily accessible viewing areas where the public is invited to watch aircraft activity. The Runway View Deck and the Public Sky-deck are located on the east and west ends of the Airport Administration Building, at 3223 Donald Douglas Loop South.  Both areas are excellent spots to watch airplanes, take photographs, listen to the air and ground activity from the control tower, which is
broadcast in the background, or even enjoy a picnic on the view deck or in the green area in front of the Airport Administration building.  Public viewing is encouraged between dawn and dusk, 365 days a year.

For a different angle, head over to Clover Park at the corner of 25th Street and Ocean Park Boulevard - where there is a viewing area with a telescope focused on the runway.

Events on the Airport

The public is encouraged to attend some of many public events and on-goings at the Santa Monica Airport. Barney's Warehouse sale happens two times a year with BIG discounts. There are the Macy's/American Express Passport Fundraiser, Dream Halloween& PAL Halloween events, The LA Arts Show, Devine Design (Project Angel Food,) and The LA Antique Show just to name a few.

Though many of the airport events listed above take place at the Barker Hangar, some events like Asian Nights & New Years Celebration take place at the Typhoon-Hump Restaurants. There are also, Fly-ins, the Women 99's Air Races, Concerts, and other activities.

And, don't forget; if you have a civic or school group that would like a tour of the airport, contact us at (310) 458-8591 or send us an email.
