Groups or individuals desiring to provide coaching
or instruction at the Santa Monica Swim Center must
obtain a permit. Private instruction (one-on-one) is
not permissible. Permit guidelines and applications
can be obtained
on this website
at the Santa Monica Swim Center.
characteristics are examples of instruction in
progress and are not permissible:
A swimmer in the water at the wall
the majority of the time and sending off another
swimmer and giving corrective feedback on swimming
~ A swimmer is intently focused on the swimming
partner they are with and the skills they are
~ Progressive structure involved in the swimming
activities given with little or no play or lap
~ Detailed and technical descriptions of activities
are given prior to a swimmer performing a skill, as
well as corrective feedback delivered after the
skill is completed.
~ Spending more than 5 minutes drilling a swimmer in
the same skill with little or no play or lap
swimming involved, and using multiple teaching
techniques and methods.
