Summer swim lesson 2012!

PRIORITY ON-LINE REGISTRATION FOR SANTA MONICA RESIDENTS ONLY. Resident online registration for summer activities begins Wednesday May 2nd at 6 a.m. Registration May 2nd – May 8th is ONLINE ONLY. Non-resident online registration begins May 9th at 6 a.m. An approved RecEnroll account is required for all on-line registration.

Groups or individuals desiring to provide coaching or instruction at the Santa Monica Swim Center must obtain a permit. Private instruction (one-on-one) is not permissible. Permit guidelines and applications can be obtained on this website or at the Santa Monica Swim Center.

The following characteristics are examples of instruction in progress and are not permissible:

  • A swimmer in the water at the wall the majority of the time and sending off another swimmer and giving corrective feedback on swimming techniques.

  • A swimmer is intently focused on the swimming partner they are with and the skills they are performing.

  • Progressive structure involved in the swimming activities given with little or no play or lap swimming.

  • Detailed and technical descriptions of activities are given prior to a swimmer performing a skill, as well as corrective feedback delivered after the skill is completed.

  • Spending more than 5 minutes drilling a swimmer in the same skill with little or no play or lap swimming involved, and using multiple teaching techniques and methods.
