Santa Monica Bike Center

The Downtown Bike Center is one year old! With over 350 secure bicycle parking spaces, bike rental, repair, and 2 hours free valet bike parking, the Center has exceeded all projections for number of users and rentals.  Membership is available, and provides restrooms, showers and lockers for commuters.  Bike education and skills classes are hosted here as well.  A pilot commuter bike program started this Summer offers a free 2-week trial commuter bike, lock, membership and route planning assistance.

FINAL Bike Action Plan Released

The FINAL Santa Monica Bike Action Plan has been released.  This comprehensive document provides both a 5-year implementation plan, as well as a 20-year vision for further integrating bicycles into the fabric of everyday life in Santa Monica.  The final  document is available for download or may be purchased at City Hall at the City Planning public counter (Room 115).

NEW Bike Education Videos & Bike Campus

Check out the new beach bike campus with interactive bicycle education videos at 1 Ocean Park Boulevard or watch the videos now.

NEW Bicycle Facilities

The City is implementing the bike action plan and installing over 30 new miles of bike lanes and sharrows, almost doubling the miles of bike facilities in the City.

NEW Bicycle Racks

In 2011-2012 hundreds of bike racks were installed downtown, on Main Street and other commercial corridors, and at various locations where they were requested or where the existing racks were heavily used. More racks will be installed citywide, including the City's Parks and other popular destinations. This effort implements the City's Bike Action Plan and makes Santa Monica more bike-friendly!

To request a rack at your favorite destination, please visit and click “submit a request” at the bottom of the page.
