Bringing Arts and Culture to Life in Santa Monica

May 24, 2007

So, how'd you like the Santa Monica Festival?  I'm pretty sure I saw you there, dancing along to Rhythm Roots All-Stars or checking out the Re-Fashion shows on the youth stage.  Weren't those kids awesome?  The future of haute couture is obviously attending elementary school in Santa Monica right now.  What a great day it was!  And if you weren't there, you definitely missed out!

But it's time to move on and there's even more art, more culture and more fun coming down the pike.  This weekend we've got a world of culture going on - everything from Broadway-bound SAMOHI kids to classic butoh from Japan.  It's going to be a Memorial Day week-end to remember!

Here’s the set-up – a party of four couples is celebrating the 10th anniversary of a deputy New York City mayor and his wife.  Here’s the problem, the host just shot himself in the head.  But don’t worry, it’s only a flesh wound – this is Neil Simon not Quentin Tarentino.  Oh, one more thing, the wife is missing.  Hilarity ensues!   Like I said, it’s Neil Simon.  You’ll love it!

Santa Monica Theatre Guild

Morgan-Wixson Theatre
2627 Pico Boulevard

At the Santa Monica Festival on Sunday, I spotted a pack of the cutest little two-legged mice running about the park.  I followed them back to their home base, the Santa Monica Theatre Guild booth, where I learned about Lilly and her Purple Plastic Purse.   I discovered that the mice I saw were actually young actors who perform this story live and on stage!  And there I was thinking they were freakishly large, through adorable, rodents.  It’s a great story, every kid in town should know this story, so bring yours to the Morgan Wixson and hear it yourselves.

Have a great Memorial Day everyone!
