Rome’s Blue in the Face Theatre Company has come to town for a visit to the Santa Monica Playhouse bringing with them a poetic drama performed in the most romantic of languages. Audiences will be drawn into a world wtih a group of hikers whose journey becomes a metaphor for self-knowledge and awareness. Blue in the Face Theatre Company was founded in 2003 in Civitavecchia (Rome) by Enrico Maria Falconi.  Their appearance in Santa Monica is their first in the USA.  All performances will be performed in Italian (with a pre-show synopsis provided in English) and will include a post-show reception with the cast.  Reserve your tickets by calling 310-394-9779 ext. 1.

A Tribute to a Young Artist

JOURNEY: Images of War/Celebrations of Peace
Santa Monica College
Pete and Susan Barrett Art Gallery
Opening reception on Friday from 6:00 – 9:00 pm

In the summer of 1993, Dan Eldon, a 22-year-old photographer for Reuters, was making his way through the streets of Mogadishu to the site of a United Nations bombing where scores of people had just been killed. Amid the ruins, he and three other journalists were stoned to death by an enraged mob.  This powerful tribute to the late Dan Eldon, whose images of war-torn and famine-stricken Somalia reverberated throughout the world will be on view through March 21 in the gallery at the SMC Performing Arts Center on Santa Monica Boulevard at 11th Street.

One final note - Harvelle's (one of the true gems of Santa Monica) has recently begun their own weekly newsletter listing the musicians performing each weekend.  Unfortunately, it generally comes out too late for me to include their concerts in the Palette.  But if you're a blues fan, (and who isn't?) check out their website and sign up for the newsletter Or become their friend on MySpace!

So, have a great weekend everybody!  See you out there!
