Exploring Creative Santa Monica
July 2, 2009
Happy Independence Day everyone! There's good news and there's bad news. First the bad news: There are no fireworks in Santa Monica on the Fourth of July. Now the good news: There are no fireworks in Santa Monica on the Fourth of July! But there's theatre, art, music and lots of fun. So if you HAVE to have fireworks - look south to Marina Del Rey and let them deal with the traffic. And whatever you do - have a great time!

Fourth of July Parade

3rd Annual 4th of July Parade
Main Street
9:30 am
Saturday, July 4

We can count on the fact that it's not going to rain on Santa Monica's 3rd Annual Fourth of July Parade on Saturday. Before the Parade passes by you might not see a lot of brass bands and harpsichords but you will see lots of friendly faces having an absolutely terrific time. There's nothing like just hanging out with friends and family enjoying an old fashioned real community parade. And there's still time to sign up if you want to march along! So, don't be the one standing there wondering "Did a parade pass by?" Get yourself and the family some breakfast Saturday morning down on Main and grab your spot for our hometown parade.

Thoroughly Modern Millie
Morgan Wixson Theatre
Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., Sundays at 2 p.m.
Through August 1, 2009

So beat the drum 'cause here comes Thoroughly Modern Millie. A girl has to keep up with the times and if that means raising your skirt and bobbing your hair, then that's just what Millie's going to do - along with finding a nice millionaire boyfriend, of course. Join Millie, sweet Miss Dorothy, dashing Jimmy, jazz baby Muzzy, and the villainous Mrs. Meer for a night of carefree fun. But don't blame us if you break an ankle while doing the Charleston on the sidewalk en route to your car. However, if you do break your ankle doing the Charleston on your way home, call me, I've got an exta boot cast I can lend you.

Are You A Jazz Baby?

Harvelle's

There's something in the tone of a saxophone, that make me do a little wiggle all my own..... Oops, sorry. I can't get those Thoroughly Modern Millie songs out of my head right now. Anyway, if you are a Jazz Baby, this is just the weekend to spend a night or two soaking up the blues and jazz at Santa Monica's finest musical venue, Harvelle's. On Friday night Donna Lyn will be singing the blues and on Sunday, it's the Toledo Show with their mix of jazz and blues. Saturday night has yet to be announced but what a great place to wind down after a wild 4th of July. Soothing jazz, heartfelt blues, and an atmosphere that is beyond compare.

Become a Harvelle's friend here!

Have a great weekend!
