This week we've got a fairly brief edition of the Patette but don't get the idea there's not much to do!  You can still visit the George Hurrell exhibition at the California Heritage Museum or catch The Bald Soprano during its extended run at City Garage.  There's also Robots vs Fake Robots now officially open at the The Powerhouse Theatre and Bye Bye Birdie ends its run at Santa Monica Civic Light Opera Jambo returns to McCabe's for a Sunday morning children's concert and I've got two terrific new items to keep everyone thoroughly entertained until Monday!

Mike Disfarmer's haunting looks at small-town Arkansas are currently on view at Bergamot Station's Rose Gallery.  Click the image for details.

Resolution in the Bag
Cause for Creativity
6:00 – 9:00 pm
Saturday, February 23
Santa Monica Museum of Art
Bergamot Station G1
2525 Michigan Avenue

Santa Monica Museum of Art always has the coolest events and the most fascinating crowds and this Saturday night will go down in history as one of their absolute best! Cause for Creativity is a unique series of SMMoA workshops that combine art making with social activism.  At Resolution in the Bag, The underground collective Hit+Run will conduct a live silkscreening party where participants make one-of-a-kind silkscreened cotton bags to use instead of plastic. You can also enjoy the positive creative mixes of The Dublab Soundsystem, and pop into The BLNKBooth to take pictures of yourself, your friends, and your new bag!

If These Tiles Could Talk
The Story of the Malibu Potteries

Christ Walden tells the fascinating story of the Rindge family, who owned property in Santa Monica and Malibu and created one of the most successful and admired art potteries in the region.  Most lectures rely on slides and illustrations to showcase their subject matter, but by locating the talk in landmark Embassy Hotel Apartments, the Santa Monica Conservancy has chosen to surround the audience with brilliant examples of the rich designs and colors of the subject matter.  Ms. Walden was guest curator at the California Heritage Museum's exhibition on vintage California tile in 1991, and her book, California Tile: The Golden Era 1910-1940 will be available for sale at the lecture.

One last highlight for this weekend!  Ensemble Studio has returned to the Miles Playhouse with its annual festival of seminars and play-readings.  Click on the image above to get their full schedule.

Have a terrific weekend!
