It's
the first weekend of Black History Month and there's an
event tonight at the Montana Library as well as a
concert of traditional music from the Carolinas at
McCabes. Then, as a follow-up to Super Tuesday,
the Aero is presenting a series of political thrillers
that will definitely keep you up nights!
If
you're reading this Thursday morning and would like to
take a brief break from the office, join us down on the
beach! We'll be dedicating a monument
marking a section of beach
near Bay Street that was once referred to as The Ink
Well - a narrow slice of sand available for African
Americans and salutes Nicolas Gabaldon, the first
documented African American surfer. We'll be on the
pedestrian path where Bay Street hits the sand. We'd
love to have you join us at 11:00 am for a cup of coffee
or hot chocolate while we honor the many African
Americans who found a sanctuary on this beach and a
young surfer who broke barriers while riding the waves.

McCabe’s is the place to be
this weekend for music. On Friday night,
they’ve got the Carolina Chocolate Drops
playing the rich tradition of fiddle and banjo
music found in green hill country of North
Carolina’s Piedmont region.

Stan Ridgway is a true
original. One of the most unique
singer/songwriters in American music, from his
early days with L.A.'s Wall Of Voodoo,
to his even more intriguing solo career, Ridgway
has created an impressive body of work.

Ex-prisoner-of-war Frank
Sinatra tries to connect the dots only

Gregory in a savage parody of Sen.
Joseph McCarthy) and an assassination plot mesh
in John Frankenheimer’s
suspenseful adaptation of Richard Condon’s
satirical thriller.
Saturday Double Feature starting at
7:30 pm
Winter Kills
Saturday, February 9
Another novel by Richard Condon’s

idealistic brother of a slain president,
John Huston as the amoral robber-baron

Perkins as the certifiably loony Head
of National Security.

Burt Lancaster and
Robert Ryan are two wealthy Texans
revealed to be the real force behind the JFK
assassination.

Robert Redford and Dustin
Hoffman shine as Washington Post
investigative reporters Woodward and Bernstein,
the pair responsible for uncovering the shocking
truth behind the Watergate break-in.
&
The Parallax View
Impetuous reporter Warren Beatty’s
hunt for a political assassin turns more and
more terrifying as each successive layer of
corruption and right-wing insanity is unpeeled.

Propositions to Fly, Valerie Tymoczko,
temporary work at Airport Park |
While you're out and about this weekend, stop by Airport
Park and check out the new temporary installation,
Propositions to Fly, by Valerie Tymoczko, the
first of a series of temporary installations. The two
sculptures will bring to mind remote control airplanes,
kites and sailboats. Placed on two concrete pads near
the park's picnic area, Propositions to Fly is
about imagining and believing in an object's ability to
do something unexpected - even if it looks impossible,"
says artist Tymozcko. Though she assures us that
neither sculpture will ever lift off on its own power,
"they share properties with things that exist in the
real world that really can fly." Tymozcko points
out, "essentially, they're
about improvisation, absurd logic, humor and the
willingness to believe."
Have a terrific weekend!
