Exploring Creative Santa Monica

April 3, 2008

It’s a great week for theatre in Santa Monica with terrific shows playing all over town.  Save yourself a trip downtown and sample a few of these terrific local productions.  We’ve already mentioned the splendid production of Aida at Santa Monica College, The Full Monty and The 100 Dresses at the  Morgan-Wixson Theatre

Don't miss the play that all the critics are raving about! Fafalo is now playing at the Miles Playhouse.  It’s made the Critic’s Choice list at the LA Times and City Beat while LA Weekly says the “stage crackles with ingenuity and creativity.”  But time is running out – Fafalo closes next weekend so you’d better get there soon before this treat disappears forever.

The Miles Playhouse continues its run of the sidesplitting Ziggurat Theatre Ensemble’s comedy Fafalo

The lives and love affair of Marlene Dietrich and Maurice Chevalier are being played out on stage at the Santa Monica Playhouse every Sunday.    It’s a fascinating story of two legendary performers complete with performances of 15 of their signature songs. So let’s  see what the boys in the backroom will have and tell them we’re having the same!

The Powerhouse is the best spot on the west side for storytelling as you’ll find out by spending an evening in the company of the raconteurs performing at What’s the Story? Festival.  Each of the 15 deeply moving, hilariously brave, bawdy, brazen and bold tales have been crafted in Stacie Chalkin’s  monthly workshops and will delight audiences all weekend.

Spring arrived on March 20 and the Santa Monica Museum of Art is going to help us all get ready for spring planting!  At this fascinating workshop we’ll create sculptural trees to be placed in the museum’s courtyard under the direction of artist Allison Danielle Behrstock..  At the same time, Tree People, Farmlab and the City of Santa Monica Environmental Programs Division will be conducting workshops on the essentials of planting actual trees, making a junker garden and strategies to make all our lives more sustainable.

That's it for this weekend - have a great one!
