"There was a cabaret. And there was a master of
ceremonies. And there was a city called Berlin
in a country called Germany. It was the end of
the world..." These few words by
Christopher Isherwood set the stage of
one of his most beloved short stories which went
on to become a play, a movie, a musical play and
finally a movie musical. Experience the music,
the dance and the decadence of 1929 Berlin, and
the story that has captivated audiences for over
40 years. As a follow-up to the play, on Sunday
you can go to the Santa Monica Conservancy's
reception at the Isherwood/Bachardy
home - check below for the details. |

Pearl)
Park at Santa Monica College
1900 Pico Boulevard
Santa Monica College, the City and the School
District have all joined forces this year to
present the City’s only Fourth of July fireworks
exhibition. Bring the family to this really
spectacular fireworks show and enjoy the great
live music by Chris Mulkey and
Delux along with the
Santa Monica College Jazz Band. You'll
be so glad you did, because this way when the 4th
comes around next week you can go to the
2nd Annual 4th of July Parade on Main Street
and then head home for a barbeque with family
and friends safe from all that maddening traffic
and those insane crowds.
The festivities - usually held at SMC's
Corsair Field - are being moved this year to
John Adams Middle School across the street from
Corsair Field, which will be undergoing
renovations. |

Don Bachardy opens the Santa
Monica Canyon home he shared for 30 years with
Christoperher Isherwood
for a one-of-a-kind reception hosted by
Bachardy personally and the
Santa Monica Conservancy. Built
in 1925 the home overlooks Santa Monica Canyon
and the ocean.
Colorful paintings and intriguing portraits fill
every space on the walls from the living room to
the bedrooms. One corridor, called "Hockney
Hall," is covered with the artist's
work. Even in the small, tiled kitchen there
hangs a 1954 self-portrait by Tennessee
Williams, the only one in
existence, a gift from the writer. |
