Once again it's
Thursday and if you're anything like me, you're
wondering "What on earth am I going to do this
weekend?" Maybe you're thinking you should go see some
absolutely earth-shattering solo performance work by a
true master of the art form. If so, check out
Kristina Wong at the Miles Playhouse.
Or perhaps you'd rather take a closer look at the world
around you and maybe get a new take on a few familiar
sites. If that's the case, don't miss the photo
exhibition at the Main Library on
Saturday. I know there's lots of folks out there who'd
like to support the work of the Santa Monica
Conservancy and also get a peak inside the
extraordinary digs that architect Steven Ehrlich
created for artist Miriam Wosk. Or
maybe this is the weekend to remind everyone what a
truly fabulous mother, father, grandparent, uncle, aunt
or godparent you really are and take the tykes to a
Marimba concert. I know all those things are on my
agenda and I'm sure they're on yours too! I'll see you
out there!

Kristina Wong has toured the
country winning acclaim from sea to shining sea
with this solo - yet not autobiographical -
performance. She uses her sharp humor to delve
into a very serious issue - the high incidence
of mental illness among Asian American women.
Given Wong's class A talents as a writer and
performer and her totally bent view of the
world, I can assure you that this show will be
irreverent, provocative and brilliant.
Oh, and one more thing, for all you knitters in
the house, there is free yarn for anyone who
brings their knitting or crochet needles to the
show! I really don't know why one would bring
knitting needles to a performance, but I'm sure
that all will be explained once we get there. |

A Second Look:
Teens Exploring Santa Monica
2:00 pm
Saturday, September 20
2nd floor Multipurpose Room
Santa Monica Main Library
601 Santa Monica Boulevard
310/458.8620
What I love most about the arts is that I get a
chance to see something through another person's
eyes. In this exhibition, we get to see our own
City of Santa Monica through
the vision of local teenagers who explored the
City with digital cameras in a workshop funded
by the California Council for the
Humanities. For ten weeks, the young
participants learned research and presentation
skills, how to document their observations with
photography and writing, how to curate an
exhibit, and how to organize and conduct a
public program. After viewing and selecting
photographs for the exhibit, participants chose
the theme A Second Look because many of
the photographs depict ordinary places and
objects that really need a second look to see
their beauty and meaning. |

A visit to this 1926 Mediterranean style house

Steven Ehrlich created serene
minimalist spaces for artist Miriam Wosk
to display her own multi-media paintings and her
vibrant, colorful collections of decorative art
and furniture.
Tickets are $250 per person
with proceeds going to support the non-profit
work of the Santa Monica Conservancy, promoting
