What a great summer we’ve had in Santa Monica!
We’ve seen the first Glow (with
many more to come!) and a third season of
Jazz on the Lawn. There's been music of
all varieties and theater for all tastes along with
gallery and museum exhibitions that fascinated and
intrigued us all. We've been to festivals of every
stripe and literary events both poetic and
narrative. You gotta admit it - there's been an
embarrassment of riches when it comes to
culture in Santa Monica's summer of '08. I just
hope y'all had as much fun as I did! And now summer
is over and fall begins. But with it comes a fall
season filled with enough art and culture to keep us
all occupied until the chill of winter sets in.

Bob Dylan at the Aero |
The Other Side of The Mirror: Bob Dylan Live At
The Newport Folk Festival
Bob Dylan '65 Revisited
7:30 pm
Tonight, September 4
American Cinematheque at the Aero Theatre
1328 Montana Avenue (at 14th Street)
323/466.FILM
Bob
Dylan fans (I know you’re out there), here’s
your chance to examine Dylan’s early career and
truly see the transformation from scrawny
protest singer to rock and roll icon. Perhaps
you heard the rumor that Dylan is performing in
Santa Monica? It was tue! He performed last
night at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, just
like he did back in the '60's. But don't get
jealous - I didn't get invited either. But we
can go to the Aero tonight and see these two
films that will give us all an inside look at
the legend in the making. |

out from his music career to rescue and revive
the Silent Movie Theatre on
Fairfax Avenue but soon found that he had a rare
form of cancer. He survived the cancer, so he
wrote a song; which became an album; which
became a stage show that makes its debut Friday
night at Santa Monica Playhouse. |

McCabe's
welcomes Judith Owen
back to their stage along with her amazing
voice, disarming wit, and ability to spin a good
yarn. Joining her are guests Harry
Shearer (bass & vocals), Julia
Fordham (vocals), and Lenny
Castro (percussion). It’s going to be
quite an evening! Owen is a phenomenally
talented vocalist and songwriter with a slew of
great albums to her credit. The latest of these,
Mopping Up Karma, has been described by
the Washington Post as "the
latest reminder of Owen's rare talent for
effortlessly crossing genres ... her alluring
vocals are a gift that keeps on giving." |

Santa Monica Connects |
|
Santa Monica’s latest venture
to keep you abreast of the broad selection of
both cultural opportunities and social services
available to those who live or work in our City
is Santa Monica Connect. This
new City blog aims to inform us all about the
many things to do, avenues for assistance and
how to connect with them. The first listings
have been written by a group of young Santa
Monica bloggers who have registered their own
reactions to some of our theatres, orchestras,
homeless services, child care agencies, museums,
student aid, and more. Check our
Santa Monica Connect
and give us your own comments on some of the
many topics.
