ARGUMENT IN FAVOR OF
MEASURE Y

MEASURE Y CONTINUES FUNDING URGENTLY NEEDED PROGRAMS AT EVERY NEIGHBORHOOD SCHOOL IN SANTA MONICA-MALIBU WITH STRICT TAXPAYER SAFEGUARDS.  Measure Y continues funding that voters have approved three times in the past by large majorities -- an integral part of the financing that maintains high standards of academic excellence at Santa Monica-Malibu Schools.

Unless Measure Y passes, there will be severe cutbacks in academic programs, which will seriously harm the high educational quality we expect from our local schools.

While California overall fell to the bottom of the nation in school funding, Santa Monica-Malibu schools maintained excellent schools because of local funding measures like Measure Y.  Young people mush learn advanced technology, science and computer skills to function in the 21st century economy.

Unless Measure Y passes, there will be cutbacks in funds for advanced science and technology.

Our local schools must keep their competitive edge in recruiting/maintaining the highest caliber teachers/support staff in California.  Quality teachers/staff -- including highly skilled nurses, librarians, music teachers and coaches -- ensure our children receive the highest quality instruction and overall academic program.

Unless Measure Y passes, our local schools will not have funds to continue to attract/retain high caliber staff/teachers.

Excellent schools sustain property values and prepare students for success in college.

STRICT TAXPAYER SAFEGUARDS GUARANTEE FUNDS WILL BE SPENT EXACTLY AS PROMISED - efficiently and cost effectively!

A new financial oversight committee has been established.

An annual audit will be conducted with results publicly available.

"Good schools help keep kids off the streets and teach respect for society and the value of hard work.  Measure Y will increase quality programs to keep kids safe and on a path towards success." - James Butts, Chief of Police, Santa Monica.

Yes for Kids.  Yes on Measure Y.  Continue our commitment to excellent schools.
