| Mission Statement |
| I. |
| The Commission for the Senior Community acts in an advisory capacity to the City Council and City Management on |
| matters pertaining to the senior community. |

| II. |
| 1. The Commission for the Senior Community shall have the power and be required to perform the |
| following: |
| a. Act in an advisory capacity to the City Council in all matters pertaining to the senior community |
| and their needs. |
| b. Be empowered to assemble information on problems and their solutions for the senior community |
| through all available means including the holding of public meetings. |
| c. Be empowered on its own initiative to make recommendations to the City Council on matters |
| within its purview. |
| d. Act to facilitate coordination between existing and proposed programs for the senior community. |
| Composition |
| III. |
| The Commission for the Senior Community shall be comprised of 9 members. Commissioners shall |
| serve four-year terms and must be registered to vote in the City. At least five of the commissioners shall |
| be over 60 years of age. None of the voting members shall hold any paid office or employment in City |
| Government (SMMC 2.48.010). A Commissioner Emeritus shall serve a two-year term. In order to |
| qualify for an Emeritus appointment, a person must have served two full terms as a Commissioner on |
| the Commission and must be a resident within the City. Pursuant to Section 2.32.280 of the SMMC - no |
| Santa Monica City employee may serve as a member of any Board or Commission. |
