Subject:   Resolution Establishing a Parking Zone for
           the Physically Handicapped

Introduction

This report recommends that the City Council approve the attached
resolution  to  establish  a  parking  zone  for  the  physically
handicapped adjacent to 1032-1040 Yale Street.

Background

On May 27, 1980, the City Council adopted an ordinance to  enable
the  establishment  of   parking   zones   for   the   physically
handicapped. Under this ordinance such a zone may be  established
by  a  resolution  of  the  City  Council  upon  request  by  any
individual  and  verification  by  the  City  Parking and Traffic
Engineer.

Staff has received a request from a resident for the installation
of a parking zone for the physically handicapped adjacent to 1032
and 1040 Yale  Street. Staff has  reviewed the request  and finds
that the zone meets all the appropriate requirements.

Budget/Financial Impact

There  is  no  budget  or  financial  impact  resulting from this
request.

Recommendation

It  is  recommended  that  the  City  Council  adopt the attached
resolution   establishing  a  parking  zone  for  the  physically
handicapped adjacent to 1032-1040 Yale Street.

               A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
              THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA ESTABLISHING
                A PARKING ZONE FOR THE PHYSICALLY
          HANDICAPPED ADJACENT TO 1032-1040 YALE STREET

          WHEREAS, the City Council  of the City of Santa  Monica
has  enacted an ordinance enabling individuals to request parking
zones for physically handicapped persons; and

          WHEREAS, the City has received a request for a  parking
zone for the physically handicapped; and

           WHEREAS,   the  Parking   and  Traffic   Engineer  has
considered the request and  concluded,  based  upon  the  factors
stated in Municipal Code  Section 3366A, that an  additional zone
for  the physically handicapped may be installed at the requested
location,

          NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY  COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF  SANTA
MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:

          SECTION 1.   A zone for  the physically handicapped  is
hereby established adjacent to 1032-1040 Yale Street.

           SECTION  2.   The  City  Clerk  shall  certify  to the
adoption  of this Resolution, and  thenceforth and thereafter the
same shall be in full force and effect.
