City Council Meeting: March 1990
STAFF REPORT
TO: Major and City Council
FROM: City Staff
SUBJECT: REQUEST THE CITY COUNCIL TO APPROPRIATE FUNDS IN AN
AMOUNT OF $32,000 FOR DIRECTIONAL SIGNAGE AND PAVEMENT
MARKING IMPROVEMENTS TO THE BEACH BIKE PATH
INTRODUCTION
This report requests City Council approval to utilize remaining
funds from the beach bike path northern extension project for
beach bike path improvements that would include directional
signage and pavement markings.
BACKGROUND
In May of 1989 the City completed the construction of the beach
bike path between the 1100 block of Pacific Coast Highway and the
north City limits. This northern section of the bike path
included signage and pavement markings at regular intervals. To
provide uniform signage along the southern section of the beach
bike path adjacent to the beach concession stands, the Pier and
the Promenade area south of the Pier, specifications for new
signage improvements were prepared. These improvements include
directional striping, striping of crosswalks, and fourteen post-
mounted signs. These improvements would provide for uniform
signage of the entire beach bike path in Santa Monica. The cost
of these improvements is $31,598.
The north section of the beach bike path was completed with grant
monies received from Los Angeles County in FY 85/86 and FY 86/87.
Following construction of the bikepath the capital account was
closed. Funds in an amount of $79,277 remaining from the project
are in revenue account 20-400-501-0000-0395-10000. It is
requested that these remaining funds be used to complete the
improvements to the bike path.
BUDGETARY/FINANCIAL IMPACT
The budget at account number 20-770-511-22487-8918-99156 should
be increased by $32,000. This budget increase will be financed
from restricted cash being held at account number
20-000-000-00000-9400-0073.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff requests that the City Council appropriate funds in the
amount of $32,000 from account 20-400-501-0000-0395-10000 to
account 20-770-511-22487-8918-99156 for completion of
improvements to the beach bike path.
