Council Meeting: July 14, 1992

TO: Mayor and City Council

FROM: City Staff

SUBJECT: Recommendation to Award Bid to Furnish and Deliver
2-Cubic Yard Metal Refuse Containers, Bid #2424

Introduction

This report concerns award of bid to furnish and deliver 2-cubic
yard metal refuse containers for the Solid Waste Management
Division, General Service Department, at specified unit prices,
plus applicable sales tax.

Background

In response to published Notices Inviting Bids (published June 15
and 16, 1992) to furnish and deliver 2-cubic yard metal refuse
containers in accordance with City specifications, bids were
received and publicly opened and read on June 29, 1992. Proposal
forms were mailed to two vendors and notices were advertised in
accordance with City Charter and Municipal Code provisions. Two
proposals were received as follows:

                                        CONSOLIDATED CUBIC
                                        FABRICATORS CONTAINER
                                            CORP. MFG.

2-cubic yard metal refuse $194.65 ea $225.00 ea
containers without locking
device

2-cubic yard metal refuse $204.65 ea $240.00 ea
containers with locking
device

The City currently has approximately 4,000 metal refuse
containers in circulation. As these age and outlive their
repairability, there is a need to replace them on an on-going
basis. This is achieved through incremental purchases of varying
quantities of new containers to replace the old containers.

Staff has evaluated the low bid and finds that it meets City
specifications.

Budget/Financial Impact

Fiscal Year 1992/93 appropriation authority for this purchase is
in the Solid Waste Management Division, General Services
Department, account number 27-500-441-00000-4425-00000.

Recommendation

It is recommended that the award of Bid #2424 be made to
Consolidated Fabricators Corp. at specified unit prices, plus
applicable sales tax, as the lowest and best bidder.
