SUBJECT: Recommendation to Award Bid to Provide Labor to Repair
Damaged Transit Coaches, Bid #2642
Introduction
This report concerns award of bid to provide labor to repair
damaged transit coaches for the Transportation Department, at
specified unit price with two one-year renewal options.
Background
In response to published Notices Inviting Bids (published June 13
and 16, 1997) to provide labor to repair damaged transit coaches
in accordance with City specifications, bids were received and
publicly opened and read on June 23, 1997. Proposal forms were
mailed to three vendors and notices were advertised in accordance
with City Charter and Municipal Code provisions. Two proposals
were received as follows:
VENDOR HOURLY RATE
Smith & Hartford Custom Coach (WMBE) $25.00
Complete Coach Works $39.50
The GMC and MCI Classic Buses require repair to rusted and
damaged areas to prevent further deterioration to these buses.
Staff has evaluated the low bid and finds that it meets City
specifications.
Budget/Financial Impact
Fiscal Year 1997-98 appropriation authority for this purchase is
in the Transportation account number 41-600-651-10501-5501-25311
and in the Capital Improvement Budget account nmber 41-750-657-20097-8900-99106, "Bus Component Replacement Program".
Recommendation
It is recommended that the award of Bid #2642 be made to Smith &
Hartford Custom Coach at specified unit price with two one-year
renewal options as the lowest responsible bidder.
