SUBJECT:  Recommendation to Award Bid to Provide Labor to Repair
          and Service Bus Air Conditioners, Bid #2658

Introduction
This report concerns an award of bid to provide labor to repair
and service bus air conditioners for the Maintenance Division,
Transportation Department, at specified unit prices, plus
applicable sales tax.

Background
In response to published Notices Inviting Bids (published June 24
and 25, 1997) to provide labor to repair and service bus air
conditioners in accordance with City specifications, bids were
received and publicly opened and read on July 2, 1997.  Proposal
forms were mailed to two vendors and notices were advertised in
accordance with City Charter and Municipal Code provisions.  Two
proposals were received as follows:

           VENDOR                        HOURLY LABOR RATE
           Cinedyne Inc.                            $45.00
           Complete Coach Works                     $52.50

This bid covers repair and service of air conditioners on transit
coaches.

Staff has evaluated the low bid and finds that it meets City
specifications. 
 
Budget/Financial Impact
Fiscal Year 1997-98 appropriation authority for this purchase is
in the Maintenance Division, Transportation Department, account
number 41-600-651-10501-5501-25311.  The estimated annual
expenditure is $30,000.00.

Recommendation
It is recommended that the award of Bid #2658 be made to Cinedyne
Inc. at specified unit prices, plus applicable tax, with two one-year renewal options,  as the lowest responsible bidder.
