SUBJECT:  Recommendation to Award Bid to Provide Bus Detailing
          Services, Bid #2657

Introduction
This report concerns an award of bid to provide bus detailing
services for the Maintenance Division, Transportation Department,
at specified unit prices, including applicable sales tax, with
two one-year renewal options.

Background
In response to published Notices Inviting Bids (published June 20
and 21, 1997) to provide bus detailing services in accordance
with City specifications, bids were received and publicly opened
and read on June 30, 1997.  Proposal forms were mailed to three
vendors and notices were advertised in accordance with City
Charter and Municipal Code provisions.  Three proposals were
received as follows:

    Sardo Bus & Coach Upholstery                      $162.50
    Cinedyne, Inc.                                    $198.00
    High Tech Building Maintenance (WMBE)             $200.00

Vendor will clean bus interiors, including floors, seats, inside
windows; remove all graffiti; and clean bus operator's area.

Staff has evaluated the low bid and finds that it meets the City
specifications.

Budget/Financial Impact
Fiscal Year 1997-98 appropriation authority for this purchase is in
the Maintenance Division, Transportation Department, account number
41-600-651-10501-5501-25311.  The estimated annual expenditure is
$70,000.00.

Recommendation
It is recommended that the award of Bid #2657 be made to Sardo Bus
& Coach Upholstery Company at specified unit prices, including
applicable tax with two one-year renewal options, as the lowest
responsible bidder.
