SUBJECT: Recommendation to Award Bid to Furnish and Deliver Ductile Iron Bell and Spigot Pipe Class 50, Tyton Joint, Bid #2712

Introduction

This report recommends award of bid to furnish and deliver ductile iron bell and spigot pipe class 50, tyton joint, at specified unit prices, plus applicable sales tax. The estimated annual expenditure is $125,000.

Background

In response to published Notices Inviting Bids (published June 15 and June 16, 1998) in accordance with City specifications, bids were received and publicly opened and read on June 26, 1998. Proposal forms were mailed to four vendors and notices were advertised in accordance with City Charter and Municipal Code provisions. Two proposals were received as follows:

This pipe is used to repair existing water mains, install new water mains and install/repair fire hydrants and fire water lines throughout the city.

Staff has evaluated the low bid and finds that it meets City specifications.

Budget/Financial Impact

Fiscal Year 1998-99 appropriation authority for this purchase is in the maintenance account of various departments. As the materials are drawn out of inventory, they will be expensed against available FY 1998-99 appropriation authority.

Recommendation

It is recommended that the award of Bid #2712 be made to Pacific States cast Iron Pipe Company, at specified unit prices, plus applicable sales tax, as the lowest responsible bidder.
