SUBJECT: Recommendation to Reject Bid to Furnish and Deliver One Urban Search and Rescue Apparatus, Bid #2736

Introduction

This report recommends rejection of bid to furnish and deliver one urban search and rescue apparatus for the Fire Department.

Background

In response to published Notices Inviting Bids (published November 30 and December 1, 1998) in accordance with City specifications, bids were received and publicly opened and read on December 28, 1998. Proposal forms were mailed to eleven vendors and notices were advertised in accordance with City Charter and Municipal Code provisions. One proposal was received as follows:

Super Vacuum Manufacturing Co., Inc. $246,584.00



The bid received from Super Vacuum Manufacturing Co., Inc. was found to be approximately 15% greater than the Fire Department had budgeted in this fiscal year. In order to ensure fair and open competition, staff will re-evaluate bid specifications and research the open market for other possible bidders.

This recommendation does not have a budget or financial impact.

Recommendation

It is recommended that the award of Bid #2736 submitted by Super Vacuum Manufacturing Co., Inc. be rejected and staff be directed to re-evaluate bid specifications, research the open market for other possible bidders and rebid the requirement.
