SUBJECT: Recommendation to Award Bid to Furnish and Deliver Miscellaneous Bus Taillights, Bid #2748

Introduction

This report recommends award of bid to furnish and deliver miscellaneous bus taillights to replace existing taillights that are damaged or broken for the Transportation Department at specified unit prices, plus applicable sales tax, with two one-year renewal options.

Background

In response to published Notices Inviting Bids (published February 9 and 10, 1999) in accordance with City specifications, bids were received and publicly opened and read on February 17, 1999. Proposal forms were mailed to five vendors and notices were advertised in accordance with City Charter and Municipal Code provisions. Three proposals were received as follows:

Staff has evaluated the low bid and finds that it meets City specifications. The estimated annual expenditure is $34,000.

Budget/Financial Impact

Fiscal Year 1998-99 appropriation authority for this purchase is in various maintenance accounts of the Transportation Department. As materials are drawn out of inventory, they will be expensed against available FY 1998-99 appropriation authority.

Recommendation

It is recommended that the award of Bid #2748 be made to Universal Coach Parts at specified unit prices, plus applicable sales tax, with two-one-year renewal options, as the lowest responsible bidder.
