SUBJECT: Recommendation to Award Bid to Furnish and Deliver 2-Cubic Yard Front Loading Metal Refuse Bins, Bid #2747

Introduction

This report recommends award of bid to furnish and deliver 2-cubic yard front loading metal refuse bins for the Solid Waste Management Division, Environmental and Public Works Management Department, at specified unit prices, plus applicable sales tax, with one one-year renewal option.

Background

The 2-cubic yard front loading metal refuse bins will be used by the Solid Waste Management Division to replace existing refuse bins that cannot be repaired. Estimated annual expenditure is $120,000.

In response to published Notices Inviting Bids (published February 5 and 8, 1999) in accordance with City specifications, bids were received and publicly opened and read on February 17, 1999. Proposal forms were mailed to four vendors and notices were advertised in accordance with City Charter and Municipal Code provisions. Three proposals were received as follows:

Staff has evaluated the low bid and finds that it meets City specifications.

Budget/Financial Impact

Fiscal Year 1998-99 appropriation authority for this purchase is in the Solid Waste Management Division, Environmental and Public Works Management Department, account number 27-500-441-00000-4426-00000, in the amount of $60,000 and Capital Improvement Budget, account number 27-710-441-20099-8900-99339, "Refuse Container Purchases", in the amount of $60,000.

Recommendation

It is recommended that the award of Bid #2747 be made to Consolidated Fabricators Corp. at specified unit prices, plus applicable sales tax, with one one-year renewal option, as the lowest responsible bidder.
