SUBJECT: Recommendation to Award Bid to Furnish and Deliver One 3/4 Ton Pickup 4X4 with a Special Purpose Body, Bid #2763
Introduction
This report recommends award of bid to furnish and deliver one 3/4 ton pickup 4X4 with a body designed for use by the Animal Regulation Unit, Police Department, at a total cost of $38,845.51, including applicable sales tax.
Background
This vehicle was approved as an enhancement in FY 98/99 and will be used by Animal Regulations Unit to transport various animals while enforcing City animal regulations.
In response to published Notices Inviting Bids (published June 3 and 4, 1999) in accordance with City specifications, bids were received and publicly opened and read on June 15, 1999. Proposal forms were mailed to 74 vendors and notices were advertised in accordance with City Charter and Municipal Code provisions. Four proposals were received as follows:

The purchase of this gasoline powered vehicle is consistent with the City
=s reduced emissions fuel policy. There is no California Air Resource Board (CARB) approved conversion kit available for this vehicle at this time, and there is no estimate of when a CARB approved kit will be available.Staff has evaluated the bid by Maurice Sopp & Son for a Chevrolet truck and finds that it meets City specifications.

It is recommended that the award of Bid #2763 be made to Maurice Sopp & Son in the total amount of $38,845.51, including applicable sales tax, as the lowest responsible bidder.
