SUBJECT:     Recommendation to Authorize the City Manager to Negotiate and Execute an Amendment to Contract 6766(CCS) with Roma Design Group for the Public Safety Facility

Introduction

This report recommends that the City Council authorize the City Manager to negotiate and execute an amendment to contract 6766(CCS) with Roma Design Group to provide additional design services related to the development of the Public Safety Facility in an amount not to exceed $51,500.

Discussion

On September 9, 1997, the City Council authorized the City Manager to negotiate and execute a contract with ROMA Design Group for a not-to exceed amount of $260,000 including $7,000 in contingency to provide landscape design services for the Public Safety Facility. Additional services are required for the following reasons:

1)     Increased overhead expenses due to delays experienced during the design and construction document phases.

2)     Additional landscape design services requested including:

a.      Resolving grading issues along Avenida Mazatlan.

b.      Increased landscape design coordination.

c.      Redesign of lighting along Olympic Drive for compatibility with the Downtown Transit Mall Project.

d.      Design of a memorial plaque for the lower plaza.

Budget/Financial Impact

Funds for the additional design work, in the amount of $51,500, are available in Account C01005801.589000 – “Public Safety Facility Construction.”
