City Council Meeting: September 23, 2008

Agenda Item: 1-H

To:                   Mayor and City Council

From:              Jim Hone, Fire Chief

                        Jory Wolf, Chief Information Officer

Subject:          Patient Care Tracking and Reporting System

Recommended Action

Staff recommends that City Council authorize the City Manager to negotiate a modification to the agreement in the amount of $2,500 with Proper LLC for the EMS, patient care tracking and reporting system called FireMed Pro for a new total amount not to exceed $145,407.

Executive Summary

At present, the Fire Department is using the FireMed Pro system for EMS, patient care tracking and reporting in all fire stations. After the system was implemented, staff discovered the need for one additional FireMed Pro workstation at Fire Station 1. Funds for this modification are available in the adopted budget.

Discussion

On September 25, 2007, City Council authorized an expenditure of funds for the FireMed Pro EMS system in an amount not to exceed $142,907. Six months after the system was implemented, staff determined that the installation of one FireMed Pro workstation at Fire Station 1 was insufficient for the large number of users. The system is used by Fire Department staff for creating EMS reports. As a result, staff is recommending an additional FireMed Pro workstation be purchased and installed at Fire Station 1.

Financial Impacts & Budget Actions

The cost for the enhancement will not exceed $2,500.  Funds of $2,500 are available in the Information Systems Department’s budget at account C55000308.589000 for this enhancement.
