Subject:          Amendment to the Memorandum of Understanding with the Santa Monica Public Attorney’s Legal Support Staff Union

 

 

Recommended Action

Staff recommends that the City Council adopt the attached Resolution authorizing the City Manager to execute an amendment to the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the City of Santa Monica and the Santa Monica Public Attorney’s Legal Support Staff Union.

 

 

Executive Summary

The current Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Santa Monica Public Attorney’s Legal Support Staff Union (PALSSU) does not expire until June 30, 2010.  The City and PALSSU agreed to open the MOU to revise Section 3.02 (Health Insurance Programs) Subsection A. (Medical Insurance).  Currently, PALSSU members are making a $27.08 biweekly contribution into a Post Employment Health Plan (PEHP).  With the revision to the MOU, the City will make the $27.08 biweekly contribution into the PEHP, and PALSSU employees will make biweekly payments of $27.08 towards the cost of their medical insurance premiums, which ensures compliance with Internal Revenue Service regulations.

 

Financial Impacts & Budget Actions

The amendment to the Santa Monica Public Attorney’s Legal Support Staff Union Memorandum of Understanding will have no budget/financial impact to the City.  The City’s $27.08 biweekly contribution into the Post Employment Health Plan will be offset by the PALSSU employee’s $27.08 biweekly contribution towards the cost of their medical insurance premiums.
