May 24, 2005 At the first of two nights scheduled for a Budget Study Session, the Santa Monica City Council heard on May 24 from 10 city departments on highlights of their proposed budgets for fiscal year 2005-06 and received a report on the proposed capital improvement program for the coming year. Council asked questions of the city manager and department heads. Answers requiring some research or more detail than the evening’s time limits allowed will be presented to Council with the final proposed budget, scheduled for public hearing and adoption on June 21, 2005. The new fiscal year begins on July 1. The city manager’s budget message, a two-page budget overview, and the complete proposed budget are posted at www.smgov.net. The Budget Study Session continues on May 25 at 6 p.m. with presentations by the Community & Cultural Services, Police, and Environmental and Public Works Management departments in the wheelchair-accessible Council Chamber at City Hall.
