ARGUMENT IN FAVOR OF PROPOSITION L |
||||
Santa Monica needs BIGGER, BETTER, and MORE MODERN LIBRARIES to meet our growing needs now and into the next century. More space is needed for seating, computers, homework areas, books, magazines, newspapers, and our multimedia collections, public meeting rooms, and library programs. Proposition L will double the space of the Main Library for more seating and more shelving. It will expand room for popular programs such as children's story hours, homework support, literacy tutoring, and computer training. It will provide new rooms for group study, community meetings, lectures and performances, and outdoor green space for leisure reading. Aging plumbing, mechanical, and wiring systems will be replaced. The Library will be reconfigured for security, efficiency, and comfort. The 3 branch libraries will receive new technology and homework help centers, and
multipurpose community rooms. Ten years ago Santa Monicans realized we were outgrowing our libraries and passed a bond to purchase land next to the Main Library. We now have a wonderful design waiting to be built. Let's finish the job we started. Everyone, regardless of age, gender, income level, or political viewpoint, considers the library a critical asset in making Santa Monica a good place to live. City Council members unanimously agreed to put Proposition L on the ballot. Santa Monicans for Renters Rights, Civic Forum, and Santa Monica Youth Athletic Foundation are some of the local organizations also endorsing this proposition. Join us and honorary bond committee chair and author Michael Crichton, in voting YES on Proposition L. It's OVERDUE! Robert Holbrook Barbara Inatsugu Louise Jaffe Jean McNeil Wyner Dr. Neil Schmidt |
