        Welcome to the Community Recreation Division! 

          The Community Recreation Division provides recreation and active living programs and permit
          services at the City’s parks, beach and recreation facilities.

          The Division manages:

  •  the City’s award-winning Swim Center, offering swim instruction, fitness classes, events,
     recreation and competitive swimming opportunities

  •  the Memorial Park Gym

  •  the Cove Skatepark

  •  the Playground Partnership project

  •  adult sports leagues

  •  the Community Classes program offering youth and adult classes and
     youth camps in a variety of specialties including the arts, sports, dance and fitness.

The Division also oversees the Santa Monica Adaptive Recreation & Sports (SMARS) program providing social and recreation opportunities for people with disabilities including participation in the Westside Special Olympics program.

The Division develops policies and issues permits for use of facilities, fields, courts, group BBQ areas, community gardens and community events.  The Division is also  responsible for the film permit coordination in parks and at the beach, and provides staff support to the Field Sports Advisory Council and Community Gardens Advisory Committee.

 Pétanque Arrives in
 Santa Monica at Palisades
 Park

 
 
Pétanque Courts have been added to
 Palisades Park, just south of the Senior
 Center (1450 Ocean Ave).  The courts are
 open for drop-in use by all daily, 8 am - 10 pm.

 What's Pétanque?  Similar to bocce and
horseshoes, Pétanque is a relaxing lawn game that requires no special skills and can be played by all ages.  Stop by and check it out!

City of Santa Monica and Santa Monica-Malibu Unified
School District Partner to Open More Doors to Fitness


Sharing a strong commitment to meet the community’s recreational needs and pursuant to the Santa Monica High School Master Facilities Use Agreement, the City and the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District have partnered to make the new synthetic turf football/soccer field and other recreational facilities at Santa Monica High School (SAMOHI) available for City programs and community use during specified non-school hours.

The new synthetic turf field is available only by permit as are the Drake Pool and Natatorium, dance studio, wrestling room, and south gymnasium. The track, outdoor basketball courts and tennis courts will be available for both drop-in and permitted use.

The City manages use of the field, track and tennis courts and the District manages the
remaining facilities.

MEMORIAL PARK FITNESS ROOM NOW OPEN YEAR-ROUND!

Looking for an easy-going gym experience with top-notch equipment?  Head to the Memorial Park Fitness Room @ 1401 Olympic Blvd.!  Open Monday – Friday, noon to 9 pm, and on weekends noon to 7 pm. 

Daily entry is $3 for residents or $4 for non-residents.  Four-week passes are available at just $24 for residents or $32 for non-residents.
