The Community Recreation Division provides
recreation and active living programs at the
City’s parks, beach and
recreation facilities.
The Division manages the City’s award-winning Swim Center, offering swim
instruction, fitness classes, events
and recreation and competitive swimming opportunities; adult sports
leagues; the Memorial Park Gym; The Cove
Skatepark; the Playground Partnership project; and the Community Classes
program offering youth and adult
classes and youth camps in a variety of specialties including the arts,
sports, dance and fitness. The Division
also oversees the Santa Monica Adaptive Recreation & Sports (SMARS)
program providing social and recreation
opportunities for people with disabilities including participation in the
Westside Special Olympics program.
In addition, the Division develops policies
and issues permits for use of facilities,
fields, courts, community garden
plots, community events and coordinates film permits for parks and the
beach.
