Community groups are invited to apply for one time, occasional or seasonal use of City park playing fields. The City also permits the synthetic turf field and the track at Santa Monica High School (SAMOHI) for community use during specified non-school hours.

Adult use of the natural turf fields is limited to low intensity sports (i.e. softball, baseball).  Airport Park and SAMOHI fields, due to the synthetic turf, are designated for high intensity sport use (i.e., soccer, football, rugby, lacrosse).

The City's permit allocation process is designed to give preference to Santa Monica youth participating in organized athletic activity while still providing opportunity for broader public access and ensuring adequate time for field maintenance.

Prime time hours are usually allocated to youth sports groups and City programs.  Prime time hours are generally: Monday – Friday from 5 pm to 9 pm; and Saturday and Sundays from 9 am to 5 pm, plus 3 pm to 5 pm on weekdays during the school year.  Requests for non prime-time field hours have an increased chance of being fulfilled.

NON-PERMITTED COMMUNITY USE
The SAMOHI  track is available for non-permitted community use only when the site is open for a field permit or track permit and the non-permitted community use 1) does not interfere with programmed or permitted use or 2) create an unsafe condition as determined by the School District’s monitor.

A permit is required for instructional or group (10 or more) use.  Community groups are invited to apply for one time, occasional or seasonal use of the track.
