WSO  -  is a non profit, community based organization whose mission is to contribute to the physical, social and psychological development of people with intellectual disabilities through athletic experiences.

WSO - is an officially accredited chapter of Special Olympics International (SOI) and Special Olympics Southern California (SOSC), sponsored by the City of Santa Monica and serving the greater West Los Angeles area.

WSO - provides year-round seasonal athletic training and competitions for children and adults ages 8 and above. Some of the sports offered include: track and field, swimming, floor hockey, bowling, bocce', basketball, softball, tennis, power lifting, gymnastics, golf and soccer.

Volunteers Opportunities

Special Olympic volunteers are very special people who give their time energy, effort and heart to bring smiles to our athletes.  Volunteer coaches are needed to coach seasonal sports training. Each volunteer attends a orientation to explore the many opportunities.  Coaches make a commitment of  1-1/2  to 2 hours  a week for a 12-16 week period of time.

If you like working behind the scenes, there are many support opportunities to assist in fundraising, outreach, public education and program planning.
