Join the Volunteer Program

The City of Santa Monica is committed to community participation in the enhancement and expansion of city services. The City is dependent on its staff and the invaluable support of many volunteers. Being a volunteer encourages civic pride and provides a personal sense of satisfaction.

There are a wide variety of volunteer opportunities within the City of Santa Monica. Whether you prefer working with children or seniors or animals, we have a place for you! The Volunteer Program is an excellent resource and can help you find a volunteer position that matches your objectives and skill set. We also publish the Volunteer Directory: Santa Monica/Westside which is a comprehensive listing of non-profit, human services organizations that rely heavily on volunteer efforts.

FOR ALL VOLUNTEERS

Persons who volunteer their services to the City are not considered employees under the City's workers' compensation program. The City does provide an accident insurance policy which provides payments in excess of any insurance for which the volunteer may be eligible.

In the event that a city volunteer uses a personal vehicle, proof of vehicle insurance must be shown.

All volunteers are required to sign a release of liability form upon becoming a volunteer for the City. Volunteers under 18 years will need a parent's signature upon becoming a volunteer.
