WHAT IS A COMMUNITY CULTURAL PLAN?
A community cultural plan is the result of a planning process that takes stock
of a community's cultural assets, needs, opportunities, and resources, and
establishes consensus on an agenda for the future.
WHAT IS ITS PURPOSE?
The purpose of the planning process is to craft a vision for the role of arts
and culture in our community. The resulting plan will define community priorities
and present an achievable action plan for joint implementation by local government
and other community organizations over a five to ten year period, including some
results that can be readily accomplished in the first years.
WHO DEVELOPS THE PLAN?
The plan is the result of an inclusive community process where every effort is
made to ensure that all viewpoints are represented: residents, business owners,
students, city officials, artists, creative professionals, cultural organizations,
and many others.
WHAT DO WE MEAN BY CULTURE?
"Culture" is defined in the broadest sense
of the term. It includes the fine arts, as well as popular, ethnic and commercial
arts. It also includes cultural events, such as festivals and celebrations
and the preservation of history and heritage.
