The Economic Development Division acts as a liaison to merchant and special business improvement districts and organizations such as the Bayside District Corporation, the Pier Restoration Corporation, the Main Street Merchants Association, the Montana Avenue Association, the Pico Improvement Organization, the Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce , the Santa Monica Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Santa Monica Small Business Development Center.

The division works to stimulate business activity, foster a vibrant local economy and promote sustainable development throughout the City of Santa Monica.  This includes managing the Farmers' Markets, the City's vending cart program and outdoor dining licenses.  The Division also manages the city's real estate assets such as Bergamot Station and certain public areas of the Pier and the Third Street Promenade.

Additionally, the division administers assessment districts and business improvement districts, is involved in business revitalization efforts and projects, and provides information and statistics about Santa Monica's economy.
