It is also interesting to note that Santa Monica is the first city in the country to allow non-water using urinals in their building code.

Performance

Not all urinals are the same. Some flush better than others and some don’t even flush at all.  No water use urinals are very hygienic (you don’t have to touch it), and they don’t need water to flush down the urine.  Instead the urine passes through a sanitation cartridge directly into the sewer. No more busted valves or leaks to worry about.

Here a few maintenance tips for urinals:

Check for leaks periodically and fix immediately – it could save you hundreds of dollars.

If your flush valve urinal needs a new diaphragm kit because the urinal is constantly running water, make sure to get the correct kit.  For example, if your urinal flushes at 1.0 gallons per flush (gpf), then get the 1.0 gpf diaphragm kit.

Note:  Before installing a no water use urinal, have the drain line snaked to ensure proper drainage.

Ultra-low Flow Urinals– use 1.0 gallons each flush (currently national plumbing code requires urinals to be at least this efficient)
