FACTOIDS!

WEED ABATEMENT - If you have a complaint about a lot or residence that has become overrun with weeds, please report it to us. A member of the City staff will inspect the site and notify the owner of any violations by certified letter. The owner will have a specified time to resolve the problem. If the owner does not take care of it within the time frame given, the city will hire a private contractor to do the clean up and bill the owner of the property. There are 10-12 City-owned lots and they are surveyed and cleaned every year. After all, we want to be good neighbors too.

SIDEWALKS
- When a damaged sidewalk is reported, City staff will inspect it as soon as possible. If necessary, a temporary repair (hot patch) will be made and the site will be added to the list for permanent repairs. The sooner you report a damaged sidewalk, the sooner it will be repaired. This is an area where the public can play an important part in the enhancement of City life.

UTILITY PATCH
- A Utility patch is necessary when there is "trench failure." This is when the underlying base or foundation of a utility line (water, gas, electric or phone) fails, Street Maintenance is called out to inspect it. Sometimes it can be repaired with a "patch" and other times the infrastructure has to be rebuilt for the public's safety and convenience.

HOW WE STAY ON TOP OF THINGS

GIS, (Geographical Information System) allows us to track the work we are doing on streets, alleys, and sidewalks. It also allows us to track where the Water Division is doing sewer work, Engineering is resurfacing a street, or Parks is trimming trees. With that information we can coordinate our field operations with other Divisions, thereby, avoid repairing a street one week only to have Engineering resurface the very same street the next week.
