How to Obtain a Business
License
Under the Santa Monica Municipal Code Section
6.04.020 any person or entity operating a
business in the City of Santa Monica is required
to obtain a business license and pay an annual
business license tax. The Business License Tax
year is July 1st through June 30th. It is the
responsibility of the business license holder to
ensure that the tax is paid each year. For your
convenience, you can complete and submit the

page: Business License Tax Application, Business
License Tax Renewal, Business License
Supplemental Questionnaire, and Home Occupation
Agreement. Or you can obtain these applications
by contacting the Business License Office at

the Business License Office in City Hall.
