SENIOR RECREATION CENTER

The Senior Center (SC) has an enticing schedule filled with enrichment activities, educational seminars, fitness and active living opportunities, Emeritus College classes, and seasonal events throughout the entire year for adults 50+. Programming includes healthy cooking, dances, chair assisted yoga, guitar classes, health education, movies, group exercise, improv classes, cultural arts workshops, Bridge and Chess Clubs, and more, with new activities being added throughout the year. New are educational workshops that focus on eating healthy, how to stay independent, available services for seniors with disabilities, and free and  low cost legal services for older adults.

The Senior Center has integrated the simulated Wii Health and Fitness program! Most of you have heard about the Nintendo Wii, had experience with video games or participated in simulated driving. This popular video game incorporates video game play with simulation to give the overall feeling of realistic fitness and sports activities without the strains and pains. Playing Wii is a great way to stretch your muscles, improve balance, strength, aerobic fitness and at the same time exercise your mind. The Wii offers games such as bowling, tennis, baseball, boxing, golf and ping-pong. It’s very easy to use!

Staff is now conducting morning and afternoon play sessions so you can learn how to play each game on the following days and times: Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 10:00 a.m. -11:30 a.m. Monday, Wednesday, Friday afternoons from 12:30 p.m. -2:00 p.m. Come and play games causally or competitively. Bowling, tennis and golf tournaments are scheduled to be formed in April for those who are interested. If the Wii has peaked your interest, come on over and give it a try, or just watch! For more information click here.

Other services include the WISE & Healthy Aging Senior Nutrition Program, lunchtime talks focusing on health concerns such as diabetes, nutrition, physical flexibility and mobility, and information on City grant funded programs and services.
