The Human Services Division provides and supports social service, recreation, education and community programs addressing the needs of infants, children, teens, families, people with disabilities, seniors, victims of domestic violence and low-income individuals, including those who are homeless.  Our division is part of the City's Community & Cultural Services Department.

Administration and Grants Management
This unit provides administration support to the Division’s three other units.  This unit also oversees and coordinates the activities of the City’s Human Services Grants Program  that provides operating and one-time grants to non-profit organizations to improve the quality of life for Santa Monica residents, with an emphasis on those who are low or moderate income or have special needs.

Family, Seniors and Disability Initiatives

This unit oversees the operations of the Senior Center and Human Services Grants serving youth, families, seniors and people with disabilities. This unit also manages the City's Human Services Grants which fund programs and services via partnerships with local non-profit social service organizations in the areas of domestic violence, legal aid, and mental health.  Staff also supports the Disabilities Commission, Commission on the Status of Women, Child Care and Early Education Task Force, Commission for the Senior Community, and the Social Services Commission.

Homeless Initiatives

This unit manages the City's Human Services Grants Program which funds programs and services via partnerships with local non-profit social service organizations serving homeless and low-income individuals.  This unit develops partnerships and secures funding for the Chronic Homeless Program, Homeless Community Court and other efforts to improve the quality of life for homeless and low-income individuals.

Neighborhood & Park Initiatives

This unit oversees the operations of the Santa Monica Police Activities League (PAL) (based at Memorial Park, provides educational and recreation programs and a drop-in facility for youth ages 6-17), Virginia Avenue Park, CREST (based at Reed Park, provides child care, homework assistance, enrichment classes, youth sports, Camp Santa Monica and the award winning Rosie's Girls program) and oversees Human Services Grants programs serving older youth in the Pico Neighborhood. Staff also supports the Police Activities League Board and Virginia Avenue Park Advisory Board.
