The City of Santa Monica Volunteer Program thanks you for helping make our city such a great place!   Following are current recruitments underway within City of Santa Monica programs.

Upcoming Special Events

Santa Monica Airport Art Walk- Saturday, March 20; 12noon-6pm

If you are outgoing, love people and art, are good at taking direction and have a “can-do” spirit, consider volunteering  for a little more than 3 hours to set up or clean up the info table, place directional signs, distribute maps and schedules and to provide information to guests as requested.Contact Allison Ostrovsky at 310.458.8350 or allison.ostrovsky@smgov.net
 
Santa Monica Festival (Revel with a Cause!)- Saturday, May 8; 8am-7pm; Clover Park, 2600 Ocean Park Blvd.  (Ideal for groups and schools as well as individuals)
 
Volunteers are needed to make this fabulous community festival successful! It’s a day filled with culture and community as many City departments and neighborhood agencies are present to meet and greet and participate!  A variety of volunteer positions will be filled, including Festival Set up & Break Down, Production Assistants, Stage & Performance Assistants, Arts Workshops Assistants and “Gophers” who are all-round helpers, pitching in as runners and messengers throughout the day. Ongoing Civic Engagement Opportunities     

Resume Writing Tutors

Bi-monthly volunteers are sought to assist twice per month as scheduled with one to one resume writing clinic for adults who register in advance through the Fairview Branch Library.
Virginia Avenue Park (VAP)

Weekly volunteers get to have fun on Saturdays during the hours of 9am-2pm, while engaging youth center participants in arts and crafts, outdoor games and cooking activities.
Homework Assistance
Police Activities League (PAL)

Weekly volunteers sought for this after school program which meets Mondays – Thursdays from 3pm-6pm. Youth served at this ongoing program are ages 6 – 17 years. Creative instructors are also sought to lead unique classes on a weekly basis in subjects such as cooking, arts & crafts, dance, fitness or sports.
Seasonal Athletics-Westside Special Olympics

Volunteer coaches and general helpers are sought to assist with this rewarding program of athletic activities for participants. All volunteers must attend orientation prior to beginning.
Farmers’ Market

Weekly volunteers with excellent customer service are sought to set up and assist at information booth, assist Food Stamp recipients with their electronic balance transfer cards, provide general overall assistance to market manager and public as needed
Tutors to Work with Youth

Weekly volunteers are placed in a one to one assignment to assist a student with comprehension of reading and afterschool homework projects on at least a weekly basis. Locations where tutors are placed include the Fairview Branch Library, Virginia Avenue Park and the Police Activities League.
Zero Waste

Be a part of this pilot program. Volunteers will have the opportunity to interact with senior adult lunch program participants, as they assist with disposal of their recyclables, compostable food waste and trash in each of the specially marked disposal containers. Volunteers are needed for one hour of service each day, Monday through Saturday from 12:15pm-1:15pm. Need to be able to make weekly time commitment as scheduled for an ongoing period (3 months on same day of week minimum is desired).

NOTE: City of Santa Monica volunteer candidates must clear a livescan fingerprint clearance prior to being placed in an assignment.
