POSSIBLE GRANTS FOR SANTA MONICA ARTISTS

Following the recommendations of Creative Capital: Culture, Community, Vision, the new long term plan for the development of Santa Monica’s creative sector, the Cultural Affairs Division has embarked on a process to explore ways in which the City’s current Cultural/Arts grant programs might be restructured.  One recommendation of the plan is to increase support of individual artists through the establishment of an Artists Fellowship Program that would recognize Santa Monica’s individual artists.  (Santa Monica artists are defined as artists who live or maintain a studio within the City of Santa Monica.)

On Wednesday, November 7, Santa Monica-based artists are invited to participate in a workshop to discuss how this type of funding program might best serve the Santa Monica arts community Santa Monica arts community as well as align with the goals of other City initiatives and plans.  Leading the discussion will be Jerry Yoshitomi of MeaningMatters, one of the most distinguished leaders of the Southern California arts community, who will be guiding us through this process.  Mr. Yoshitomi will also address issues of the overall public value of the arts and cultural granting programs for artists and arts organizations.
