SANTA MONICA POLICE HOST "NATIONAL NIGHT OUT" EVENT ON AUGUST 7
Block Party at the Public Safety Facility Promotes Community Crime Prevention

"National Night Out" is back with a twist. The Santa Monica Police Department and Chief Timothy Jackman are hosting a 1950s-style party on Tuesday, August  7, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Public Safety Facility, 333 Olympic Drive.

Celebrating the lowest crime rate since 1956, the National Night Out Block Party will include entertainment  by The Wonderelles, an all-female 50s revue group, contests and games for the kids, and lots of free food and prizes.  The Santa Monica Fire Department, McGruff the Crime Dog, the SWAT team, K-9 and mounted units will also be on hand  to meet members of the public in celebration of the partnerships which make our city safe.

Sponsored for the last 24 years by the National Association of Town Watch, National Night Out activities are sponsored by some 11,000 communities across the country to promote community and police partnerships and crime prevention.

The first 500 to register at the event will receive free buttons, balloons and flashlights.  The party will include free food from 7-Eleven, Trader Joe’s, Frito Lay and Ocean Park Pizza.

Free parking will be available in the new Civic Center Parking Structure, located directly across the street from the Public Safety Building.
