More on the Drive-In

Last year’s events were overwhelmingly successful, featuring The Wizard of Oz, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Star Wars, Super Size Me, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and a performance by The Henry Mancini Jazz Alumni Quintet.  Each screening draws an incredible high-energy crowd of 4,000 – 5,000 and boasts numerous celebrity appearances.  Last year the Drive-In was attended by actress Thora Birch and her brother Bolt who spoke to the audience about the Cancer Relief Fund.  The Santa Monica Drive-In at the Pier, now in its third year, has also been attended by such stars as Willy Wonka director Mel Stuart; Grease director Randall Kleiser, cinematographer Bill Butler and star Edd Byrnes; Cuba Gooding Jr., Julia Louis Dreyfus, surfing legend Dana Brown, Dennis Hopper, Sandra Bullock, Bill Paxton, Liz Phair, Alan Rudolph, Jason Schwartzman, Talia Shire, Griffin Dunne, Kit Carson and more.

All proceeds from these events support our Arts Fighting Cancer programs and help fund the Cancer Relief Fund; last year’s Drive-In helped support over 25 families going through treatment.  Founded in 1999, Arts Fighting Cancer is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization working to promote the art of filmmaking and the arts while raising funds to improve the quality of life for individuals fighting cancer.  For more information on Arts Fighting Cancer, please visit www.smff.com
