There’s sure to be something for every interest in the schedule of speakers and topics being presented by the Santa Monica Public Library this summer.  Join us in the community room at Montana Avenue Branch Library,  1704 Montana Avenue, for any or all of these great events:

Jewish Genealogy Workshop – Saturday, June 10, 11 a.m.

The second in a series of genealogy workshops will feature Barbara Algaze of the Jewish Genealogical Society of Los Angeles.  Barbara has been researching her own German-Jewish and her husband’s Sephardic roots since 1983, when she began interviewing family members on both coasts of the United States.  In this workshop, she will talk about “Getting Started in Jewish Genealogy.”

Don’t Take Anything Personally – Thursday, June 15, 7 p.m.

In partnership with the Santa Monica’s Cooperative Natural Grocer, SMPL presents Linda Landon, a certified Business and Life Coach, speaker, trainer, and Four Agreements Toltec Teacher.  This workshop helps women of the Baby Boom generation (born between 1946 and 1964) explore issues affecting them as they age.  Class discussions will include topics such as nurturing your inner self, new beginnings, achieving goals, life lessons, what dreams try to tell us, accessing our creative powers, coping with stress, and relationships.

Plant Care Workshop – Saturday, June 24, 10 a.m.

The City of Santa Monica's Community Forest and Public Land Superintendent, Walter Warriner, will speak about general plant care, and the care of trees. He will cover topics such as how to hire your very own arborist and basic maintenance of trees that every homeowner should know about.

California Gold Rush – Thursday, July 6 – 6:30 p.m.

Vicki Drake, a geology instructor at Santa Monica College, will speak about one of her favorite topics, the California Gold Rush!  A member of the Santa Monica College Speakers Bureau, Vicki loves to share with others everything she knows about this exciting period in our state’s history.  Her presentation covers how the California Gold Rush began; how people came from all around the world to create a melting pot; the personal stories of the trials and triumphs; and the impact all of this had on the California we know today.

Nancy Miller and Clutterology – Saturday, July 8 – 1 p.m.

Nancy Miller will bring her popular program, Clutterology, to the Santa Monica Public Library.  She is the self-professed Clutterbug and loves to attack clutter wherever she can find it. Nancy will inspire and educate you on how to eliminate clutter from your life – whether in your home, work or any other place that needs help.  She will help you identify the primary, secondary and tertiary real estate in your space to figure out how to best organize these spaces.
