The Fairview Branch Library, 2101 Ocean Park Boulevard, is seeking volunteer library tutors to assist children in grades 1 through 5 with reading and homework.  Most of the children do not have English as their first language and are performing below grade level. Tutors are assigned a student and meet at the Fairview Branch library for one hour a week.

Volunteers range in age from high school students to senior citizens and should be native English speakers. Volunteers may select a day and time best suited to their schedule (Monday through Thursday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.).   All volunteers age 18 and over are required to be fingerprinted as part of a background check for individuals working with children.

Applicants should contact Sylvia Anderle, Fairview Branch Children’s Librarian at (310) 450-0443, or e-mail Sylvia.Anderle@smgov.net.
