Date: January 25, 2008 Contact: Julie MacDonald, Public Services Librarian, Public & Branch Services (310) 458-8644 Santa Monica, California — The Santa Monica Public Library is pleased to present Journey to the Center of the Galaxy with Dr. Susan Stolovy on Saturday, February 9, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. in the Main Library’s Martin Luther King Jr. Auditorium, 601 Santa Monica Blvd. Fasten your seatbelts for a 26,000 light-year journey to the center of the Milky Way Galaxy. Dr. Susan Stolovy will show amazing images and present fascinating results from the Spitzer Space Telescope. NASA launched this telescope in 2003 and it was the most sensitive infrared telescope ever to be launched into space. The Spitzer images reveal evidence for massive star formation, swarms of stars surrounding a super-massive black hole, and fantastic filamentary dust structures. Dr. Susan Stolovy is a Staff Scientist at the Spitzer Science Center at CalTech in Pasadena. She has been working on the Spitzer Space Telescope since 2000. This free public program is open to all ages. Auditorium seating is limited, and seating is on a first arrival basis. The event is sponsored by the Friends of the Santa Monica Public Library.
