All dogs in Santa Monica are required to
be licensed. The process is simple.

Non-resident dogs with Santa Monica
permit tags may use the off-leash area
at Airport Park only.
To obtain an annual non-resident
permit tag for use of Airport Park
you must the following for each dog you
intend to bring to the park:

Copy of dog license receipt
verifying that your dog is currently
licensed.

If the receipt does not contain any
of the following, or if the
information has changed, please also
include your full name, current
mailing address, current phone
numbers, current rabies vaccine
record from your vet, full
description of dog (name, sex,
breed, color, age, size or weight).

Payment of $16
Permit payments by mail: Make
check out to City of Santa Monica and
send to Santa Monica Animal Shelter,
1640 9th St, Santa Monica, CA 90404.
Your permit tag will be mailed to the
address you provide.
Permit payments in person: Bring
all needed paperwork to the Santa Monica
Animal Shelter at 1640 9th Street, open
M - Sat 8 am to 5 pm and Sun noon - 5
pm. Cash, checks, Visa, MasterCard and
Discover accepted.
FAQs
Can I take my dog on Santa Monica State
Beach?
No. Dogs are not allowed on Santa Monica
State Beach. The closest beach where
dogs are legally allowed is the
Dog Zone
in Long Beach.
Do I have to clean up after my dog?
Yes. You are required to visibly carry
clean up materials and use them to clean
up after your dog.
